George and I have become very involved in local committees in an attempt to put in as well as to get to know more locals.
Every month we put the local paper together, called the Goornong Guide. We have also built the local website and are constantly working toward engaging more residents in our activities. CLICK HERE to visit Goornong see what we've done.
Before Christmas we organised two events called Carols in the Bush, one in Axedale and the other in Goornong. There are some pictures on the website - CLICK HERE
We are both qualifed fire fighters now and attend regular meetings but have not been to any fires yet. I did rush off to an alarm on Christmas Day only to find out that my beeper was faulty, phew. Was happy to go back to my Christmas lunch with the folks.
We are also on the Goornong & District Planning Committee which is developing the future direction of the area in several different areas such as Health; Sport & Rec; Education; Tourism; Natural Environment; and Economic Development. We have just revised our plan and have recieved some flood relief funding from the State & Federal Government to host an event to launch the plan and award our Citizen of the Year.
